Situated in the Indochina Peninsula with diverse plant genetic resources, and having a diverse cultivation environment that extends in long and narrow territory from north to south, Vietnam is a reservoir of plant genetic resources.
Laos is located in the center of the Indochina Peninsula and shares borders with China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Laos shares highly diverse genetic resources with these countries, especially rice, millets and vegetables.
Cambodia has typical tropical monsoon climate with prolonged hot dry season. Altitude of most of the land area is below 100 m with savanna forest vegetation. Hence indigenous crops and naturally growing crop wild relatives are expected to have traits resistant against biotic and abiotic stresses.
